Conch!A rather peculiar term, satisfyingly odd, yet evocative of possible curses…"you CONCHhead!" or "you're such a CONCH!"…
Humor aside, in the gay heart of Key West, conch is a cherished nickname for locals. And these conchs clearly relish life to the fullest!
Key West is renowned for its relaxed, inclusive, and welcoming embrace of the queer community. Historically, its isolated position as the southernmost point of the continental U.S. has allowed it to cultivate a distinctive character, fostering a diverse and mixed community. This has become a haven for various groups, from Native Americans and Spanish settlers to formerly enslaved peoples, pirates, and the LGBTQ+ community, creating an eclectic tapestry of inhabitants.
Key West has also been a nurturing environment for artistic expression. Celebrated openly gay playwrights like Tennessee Williams, alongside literary figures Ernest Hemingway, and Judy Blume, all found their creative inspiration within this unpretentious island. The island's motto, "One Human Family," encapsulates its ethos.

The quiet nights were a welcome relief from the energetic evenings.
This beautifully situated hotel is aptly named for its expansive lush gardens surrounding the pool. Seby likened it to the Garden of Eden, while enjoying breakfast surrounded by the melodic sounds of birds. The hotel's designation as a "wine hotel" is well-earned, with a vast wine cellar and a self-service wine tasting area.
