Olivia Rodrigo Apparently Sings &8216;Every Guy I Like Is Gay&8217; on New Album, Fans Have Mixed Reactions

Olivia Rodrigo is readying the release of her new album, Guts, this evening, and a track is already sparking discussion on social media.

On the album's song, "Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl," Rodrigo seemingly alludes to her preferences for romantically unavailable men.

"I engaged with a charming man, certain I was his ideal / Apparently, he was engaged in a romantic relationship with a male counterpart, all night long / Every action of mine is somehow doomed to fail / Every man I find appealing happens to be gay," Rodrigo is reported as singing on this piece, per Genius.

Some followers interpret Rodrigo's lyric as a veiled reference to her rumored ex-boyfriend Joshua Bassett, who declared his queer identity in a 2021 GQ interview. In his publication appearance, Bassett expressed his desire to authentically portray his identity.

Previously, before his GQ interview, the Disney Channel star had shared, and subsequently deleted, a video of himself performing, alongside a declaration regarding his sexuality.

"Throughout my life, many have attempted to dictate my sexuality, and have shamed me for aspects of my personality they are unfamiliar with. I am grateful to those who champion love and acceptance. Instead of focusing on the issue of sexuality, negativity and prejudice demonstrate more about the person spewing such negativity than about the subject," the post stated, as documented by People.

"The year is 2021. This is the generation of understanding and growth, it's time we reflect that. Whether you love me, hate me, or damn me to an eternity in hell, I cherish you all the same. Embrace your identity, without shame. The journey of self-discovery continues, and life is far too precious to allow ignorance and animosity to prevail. I choose to embody love," the post continued.

Following Bassett's public declaration, some fans interpret Rodrigo's implied observation about the romantic unavailability of men she finds attractive as potentially insensitive. Others, conversely, consider it a lighthearted and self-deprecating jab.
