Gay building

Great News from Gay Project!

We are extremely excited to proclaim a significant benchmark for the LGBTI+ population in Cork. Gay Project has, as of today, officially obtained a community center structure that will function as a devoted, secure, and all-embracing sanctuary for LGBTI+ individuals, alongside their allies! 🌈🎉

This accomplishment is a consequence of decades of concerted effort and foresight from numerous enthusiastic stakeholders, including Arthur Leahy, whose campaigning for an LGBTI+ community area commenced in discussions more than four decades past. Arthur, along with numerous others who formed the Cork Gay and Lesbian Community Development Project, comprehended the significance of having an area we can authentically refer to as our own—where affiliation, assistance, and empowerment could thrive. Presently, we stand upon the foundations of those pioneers as we transform this aspiration into a reality, and we were elated to have had Arthur ultimately turn the key forty years later.

We'd like to express our thanks to and commend the staff, volunteers, and devoted members of the Gay Project Board for their unyielding exertions in bringing the vision of the Gay Project to fruition. And, moreover, we'd like to offer a special thank you to the HSE Cork South Community Work Department for their ongoing backing.

The fresh center will amplify the efforts of Gay Project, guaranteeing a long-lasting, vibrant hub for social gatherings, support provisions, workshops, plus much more, contributing to the fortification of our community for years ahead.

Nonetheless, to guarantee the space is available to every constituent of our diverse community, we will need to undertake some crucial building operations. This involves the installation of an accessible lavatory and other refurbishments to render the center completely inclusive.

In addition, we will be initiating a fundraising campaign to aid in covering the expenditure of these indispensable operations and assisting a segment of the mortgage, guaranteeing that the center persists to be financially viable and accessible to all, for forthcoming generations.

We would welcome your support in this captivating new phase for our community. Every contribution, regardless of its size, will guide us closer to fully materializing this comprehensive area. We welcome all individual donations through our website at https://donorbox.org/gay-project. Additional information regarding the project and the process through which you can partake in our forthcoming fundraising campaigns will subsequently follow on www.gayproject.ie

In the forthcoming weeks, we will also be reaching out to our family and allies within the business community for assistance in this undertaking. We require your aid in securing the future of secure and inclusive services for our community.

Collectively, we are capable of constructing something extraordinary for the generations approaching. 🏳️‍🌈💜

With profound appreciation,
