Bogota's Gay-Friendly Hotels

This is our compilation of the finest, most unique gay-welcoming hotels located in Bogota, Colombia, ideal for LGBTQ tourists.

Bogota boasts one of our preferred gay scenes within Latin America. What makes it so special? In a single word: Theatron!

Theatron is the undisputed star of the Bogota gay landscape, and, in our estimation, the most enjoyable gay night out we've had anywhere in South America! It occupies a former converted theatre (hence the name), where roughly 5,000 gay men converge to celebrate every weekend in this colossal complex featuring thirteen clubs spread across five floors. We'd happily arrange a trip to Bogota solely for a night of revelry here.

We've been to Bogota on numerous occasions during our extended journey across Latin America, primarily for a weekend of partying at Theatron. Based on all our firsthand experiences visiting, we've compiled this guide featuring eight of the most gay-welcoming hotels to stay at in Bogota.

Best Area to Stay within Bogota

Theatron is, naturally, just one of the many highlights of the gay scene in Bogota. The surrounding area is known as "Chapinero," and it's where most of the city's top gay hangouts are located. This is also among the city's more upscale neighborhoods, featuring the best restaurants and boutique hotels. We consistently select Chapinero as our base in Bogota to be close to the gay scene. For more, be certain to consult our in-depth gay travel guide to Bogota.

We've also utilized the downtown tourist area of "La Candelaria" as a base on several trips to Bogota. The drawback is that it's roughly a 30-45 minute taxi ride from Chapinero (longer if the infamous Bogota traffic becomes really bad, which is exceedingly common). Nevertheless, Candelaria possesses a really cool atmosphere due to the high density of students based there, accompanied by some incredible street art. It's also situated near the city's top tourist attractions, such as the Gold Museum(Museo Del Oro) and the funicular station to ascend to the omnipresent Mount Monserrate, which dominates Bogota's skyline. Candelaria also offers some of the best inexpensive hotel options - beneficial if you're travelling on a budget.

Sofitel Bogota Victoria Regia

Chapinero

Reasons we adore it

  • Stunning luxury hotel
  • Incredibly comfortable beds
  • On-site gourmet restaurant
  • Excellent location in Chapinero

The Sofitel Bogota Victoria Regis is Bogota's inaugural luxury hotel, and is it ever luxurious!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, from the incredibly comfortable beds, to the gay-friendly and accommodating staff, to the splendid on-site restaurant!

It's situated in the northern end of Chapinero, nearby "Parque 93," which is where you'll find the best restaurants. It's a short taxi journey or approximately a 20-minute walk to the primary gay bars in Bogota.

Did we previously mention the beds? The Sofitel in Bogota boasts the most amaaaazing beds, which render you feel as though you're sleeping in a cloud. Besides having a feather comforter and 400 thread count sheets, they even provide a pillow menu, allowing you to select your preferred softness (or firmness)!

The on-site restaurant "Basilic" offers a delicious amalgamation of Mediterranean, French, and Colombian fusion cuisine. You're also within walking distance of Andres DC, one of the coolest restaurants in Bogota. The Sofitel also provides a bar for romantic cocktails before venturing out, along with a gym to pump up those lats before going topless in Theatron…!

Hotel Gay San Sebastian

Chapinero

Why we admire it

  • Exclusively gay hotel
  • Situated in the heart of gay Chapinero
  • Bright and colourful
  • Sauna and terrace for unwinding

Hotel Gay San Sebastian is Bogota's singular and only exclusively gay hotel.

This isn't a luxury hotel, but it's perfect if you desire a cute, cozy, and romantic sojourn with a really friendly staff.

All rooms are vibrant and colourful, while one even features a pink ballerina-theme (in the picture). The other accommodations provide diverse hues if you're not particularly fond of hot pink!

The hotel is situated directly in the core of Chapinero, just three blocks away from Theatron, which makes it extremely convenient if you're visiting Bogota specifically for the nightlife.

The sauna and the sun terrace of San Sebastian represent the ideal spots for relaxing and resting that Theatron hangover. And if you simply can't be bothered to move at all, they offer room service.

Reception is accessible 24 hours daily, and the whole building is very secure. There's also an on-site restaurant and bar. Note that this hotel appears on Booking.com as 'Hotel Boutique San Sebastian' but it's definitively the very same establishment.

DoubleTree by Hilton Bogota Parque 93

Chapinero

Why we appreciate it

  • Extremely gay-friendly, close to the Chapinero gay scene
  • Luxurious lodging
  • Heated rooftop pool and excellent gym
  • On-site bars, cafe, and restaurant

Hilton Hotels is one of our preferred gay-friendly hotel brands. They genuinely care about our LGBTQ community and don't just stick a rainbow sticker on their branding during Pride month – they're with us 365 days each year!

When lodging at a Hilton hotel, you KNOW you're in safe hands as a gay traveller, irrespective of your global location. The personnel are so amicable and go to great lengths to ensure your stay is comfortable.

This Hilton hotel (there are several in Bogota) is no exception. It's situated at the northern end of Chapinero, proximate to Parque 93. Similar to the Sofitel, it's a brief taxi ride, or around 20 minutes on foot, to Theatron. The heated indoor pool with views over the city is a stunning highlight. There is a sleek and modern gym for staying fit, also with stunning views from the windows to keep you motivated.

The rooms at the DoubleTree are spacious and lavish. We suggest booking one of the suites to savor a private romantic Jacuzzi together. If you're not inclined to go out for a meal, you can dine at the Agata restaurant or the Big Bang Coffee and Bar, which resembles a cool pub. The Sky terrace is also a gorgeous spot for your morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening. There is even a reading room complete with a fireplace to curl up in front of on those chilly evenings here in the Andes mountains.

W Bogota

Usaquen

Reasons to Love It

  • Gorgeous luxury hotel
  • On-site spa, swimming pool, and fitness center
  • On-site restaurant and two bars
  • Pet-friendly!

The W is another of our favorite gay friendly hotels to stay in Bogota. It is highly renowned for not only being gay-friendly but also for being very hip and trendy. The W also stands as one of the main sponsors of any gay events taking place throughout the city.

This specific W is located in the Usaquen district, about a 20-30 minute taxi ride from Theatron and the Chapinero gay area, however, it is oh so worth the journey if you're looking for opulent luxury. Just admire the beautiful color scheme of the glamorous W lounge bar up above.

Not only does the W possess a beautiful lounge bar, but there's also a microbrewery and a restaurant serving American 'farm to table' delights. However, there's no need to be preoccupied with counting calories because of the immense fitness center and swimming pool, which serve as pre-clubbing training(!), while the "Away Spa" offers plenty of pampering.

The rooms are incredibly luxurious, featuring lavish decor, but they also have a somewhat quirky and futuristic aesthetic, offering breathtaking views of the city and the mountains. Despite being a luxury hotel, it's also pet-friendly, providing a wide range of services to ensure both you and your four-legged friend are comfortable during your stay.

Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina Bogota

Chapinero

Why We Adore It

  • Stunning historic building
  • Truly luxurious hotel
  • On-site spa with great treatments
  • Beautiful atrium restaurant with delicious cuisine

Situated directly in the heart of Chapinero, approximately 15-20 minutes walking distance from Theatron, is the glorious Four Seasons Hotel Casa Medina.

There are actually two distinct Four Seasons hotels in Bogota, though the Casa Medina is our top pick. Housed in a historic building featuring exquisite beamed ceilings, handcrafted floors, wooden furnishings, and leather armchairs, you'll truly feel as though you're part of some old-world aristocracy (or a princess!) while staying here.

The entire building exudes colonial-style grandeur, with courtyards displaying ivy climbing the brick facades and an indoor green wall in the Castanolyes atrium restaurant/bar. Castanolyes serves delectable Mediterranean cuisine, and it's also the perfect spot to savor a cocktail before venturing out for the evening.

All rooms feature a private bar and marble bathrooms. Plush bathrobes and slippers are provided for your comfort. The on-site spa represents an absolute haven for pampering and relaxation. You can partake in a massage or a beauty treatment, like a Colombian green-coffee wrap, to improve the appearance of your skin. And of course, the most crucial element—the obligatory 24/7 fitness center, complete with a steam room.

Hotel Casona del Patio

Chapinero

Why we like it

  • Charming bed and breakfast
  • Quiet location in the gay area
  • Complimentary daily breakfast
  • Terrace/patio and library for relaxing

Hotel Casona is a charming hotel/B&B, which welcomes gay travellers. It is situated in a tranquil section of Chapinero, yet it's within easy walking distance of Theatron and the exciting gay bars of Bogota.

We loved the personable feel of Casona del Patio and wholeheartedly suggest it if you are in search of a low budget gay-friendly hotel for your stay in Bogota.

The staff are absolutely wonderful too. From the moment of booking to the conclusion of our stay, they made us feel utterly welcome - there was never a concern about us being a gay couple (they were very transparent about this from the onset when we inquired).

Located in a 1950s English style house, Casona is lovely in a rustic kind of way. The patio and terrace are beautiful spots to unwind or enjoy your complimentary breakfast. The rooms are bright and cosy, with room for families or multiple guests, in addition to private doubles.

There's a library where you can exchange books and enjoy a good read on one of the comfortable couches while tea/coffee is always available free of charge. Casona del Patio represents an exceptional combination of peace and tranquillity that remains conveniently close to all the gay nightlife in Bogota.

Graffiti Hostel

Candelaria

Why we adore it

  • Funky murals and pops of colour everywhere
  • Highly affordable
  • Fun activities on offer
  • Complimentary breakfast included

For a genuinely hip selection of budget accommodation in Bogota, you absolutely must consider the gay friendly Graffiti Hostel.

The major draw, obviously, is the vibrant murals/graffiti art throughout the hostel, in addition to the brightly painted cushions, candles, and birdcages.

There are also numerous quirky decorative aspects, such as the bathtub-turned-coffee-table filled with books you can exchange or simply peruse while there.

Besides being an excellent choice for gay travellers on a budget, Graffiti Hostel is also pet-friendly, and you can opt for a private room if you don't want to stay in a dorm. The shared kitchen is well-suited for preparing your own meals to minimize expenses, whilst a simple, yummy breakfast is also provided each day.

We appreciate how many fun activities are available here, and the opportunities for socializing with fellow guests. There are foosball tables, board games, and a PlayStation in the shared games room. You'll be within walking distance of the principal tourist attractions in La Candelaria, although reaching the gay scene in Chapinero will require you to factor in a 30-minute(ish) taxi ride.

Masaya Hostel Bogota

Candelaria

Reasons to appreciate it

  • Gay-friendly budget accommodation
  • Pleasant shared relaxation areas
  • Numerous fun activities
  • Beautiful old building

Another great option for gay-friendly budget lodging in Bogota is Masaya Hostel.

In fact, we would be hard-pressed to pick a preferred between Masaya and Graffiti because both are extremely cool!

Masaya Hostel is situated within a sizable old colonial residence in the historical Candelaria district. Even though it's a hostel, it boasts 24/7 front desk service and security at all times.

We particularly love the shared relaxation areas at Masaya, such as the greenhouse with a glass roof (pictured), along with the outdoor patio packed with hammocks and pallet couches. There are also ping pong tables, books for exchange, a TV room, and a computer room, so you'll never be short on things to occupy your time.

Rooms at Masaya consist of a mix of bunk beds in dorms, or private rooms with shared bathrooms. There is a fully-stocked kitchen for preparing your own meals, and a small bar for evening drinks, which occasionally hosts events such as Salsa nights or cooking classes for guests. However, just as with the Graffiti hostel, Masaya is a fairly long taxi/Uber ride to the gay scene in Chapinero.
