Born on August third, nineteen thirty-three, she was the daughter of Roy Spurgeon Sanders and Johnsie Thompson Sanders McGill, both of Charlotte, North Carolina. Gaye was the cherished wife and kindred spirit of Jesse C. Fisher, Jr. for a remarkable span of sixty years. As parents, they raised two sons: Jesse Powell Fisher (Lori) residing in Fuquay-Varina, and John Spurgeon Fisher of Whiteville. Furthermore, she leaves behind three beloved grandchildren: Jesse Powell Fisher, Jr.(Holly) of Murrels Inlet, South Carolina, Cameron Bishop Fisher (James) of Newnan, Georgia, along with George Sanders Fisher (Spencer) of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, also one step granddaughter, Katy Gardner (Austin) from Angier, North Carolina, in addition to three great-grandchildren named Palmer Fisher, Ellis Fisher, and Madison Lee James and step great-grandchildren; Stetson Gardner in addition to Eddie Gardner.
She, possessing a profound appreciation and reverence for classical compositions, was an English and organ graduate of the University of North Carolina. Also, she held a charter membership within the Charlotte Oratorio Society and the Southeastern Oratorio Society located in Whiteville, North Carolina.
Within Whiteville, North Carolina, Gaye was among the founders of the Waccamaw Academy. Serving as president of the Waccamaw Arts and Crafts Guild situated in Myrtle Beach, Gaye, together with Harry and Jane Charles, played a crucial part in preventing the demolition of Springmaid Villa (which was then situated in the Cabana section of North Ocean Boulevard). It experienced relocation southward by eight miles to its current location and presently serves as the Burroughs and Chapin Art Museum.
