Is Gojo gay JJK

I'm sincerely seeking clarification; is the JJK fandom truly so intolerant, given the distress it causes me?
A friend, residing in Japan and whom I met online, frequently attends conventions. She relayed that Gojo's heterosexual nature has been explicitly confirmed by the creator, Gege, in numerous Japanese magazines and interviews. Subsequent research corroborated this affirmation.
Adherence to canon, due to my appreciation for factual accuracy and respect for the author's creative vision, is my personal preference. Obviously, personal interpretations are acceptable. I simply prefer to maintain fidelity to the established narrative.
Earlier today, in a theoretical discussion post—which, incidentally, did not revolve primarily around Gojo's orientation—I briefly mentioned Gojo's confirmed straight status, citing my sources. This aspect was only tangential to the core argument.
Within ten minutes, my inbox was inundated with messages. My online community colleagues accused me of homophobia, labelled me a villain, and expressed disappointment in my character. I was even threatened with self-harm. A prominent fanfiction blog, with a sizeable following, contacted me to request the deletion of my account and cessation of my posting.
These harsh reactions stemmed entirely from my assertion of Gojo's canonically straight status, backed by verifiable evidence from Gege's work.
The resultant emotional distress is profound. Both the disheartening message from my favorite blog and the abhorrent threats deeply troubled me.
I am baffled by these responses.
Proof of Gojo's straight status, disseminated via Japanese magazine translations on Twitter, unequivocally demonstrates Gege's explicit declarations in multiple interviews.
Given this clear canonization, why such intense animosity?
As previously mentioned, personal interpretations are acceptable. However, the perpetuation of death threats against those adhering to canon is frankly outrageous.
This situation is causing me to reconsider my engagement with this fandom and Tumblr. The level of hostility is untenable.
As someone who prioritizes adherence to canon, I accept that Gojo is depicted as a heterosexual male, aligning with Gege's statements in several interviews.
Gojo's heterosexual portrayal is canonically established, based on Gege's explicit confirmations.
Why the threats against me for simply respecting canon? What is inherently problematic about adhering to the narrative as presented?
Frankly, this experience has significantly diminished my enjoyment of this fandom. I earnestly seek comprehension of my alleged transgression in upholding canon and providing supporting evidence—my confusion is palpable.
