Is john waters gay
It's simply impossible to find someone queerer than John Waters; he directed "Pink Flamingos," "Polyester," "Serial Mom" and "Hairspray," and, indeed, he turned the late drag queen Divine into an international movie star, as well as launching the cult resurgence of Tab Hunter, the formerly closeted Hollywood heartthrob.
However, Waters, whose national bestseller, Carsick, is currently available in paperback, claims he never officially came out as gay -- as nobody ever posed the question.
'Back in 1972, I appeared on the cover of some publication referred to as Gay News or Gay Times-- though I can't remember its actual name -- but it wasn't because I came out; rather, it was simply the first to request that I grace its cover,' he stated during an interview I conducted with him on SiriusXM Progress. 'Additionally, many publications, including The Advocate, ran an interview in which they dubbed me ‘the most out director,' yet they lacked the courage to directly ask if I identified as gay. They seemingly assumed it was something even more undesirable than being gay -- akin to my parents' perspective. Consequently, numerous individuals never inquired about my sexuality, fearing that I might retort, ‘No, I'm a necrophiliac,' but in actuality, even that's just a reflection of performance-related anxiety.'
Waters additionally touched upon the commencement address that he delivered during the previous month to the graduates at the Rhode Island School of Design; in this address, he shared his viewpoint on "trigger warnings," a term that has gained prevalence across numerous college campuses.
'Trigger warnings! My entire existence constitutes a trigger warning,' he exclaimed. 'A trigger warning essentially says, ‘I might express something that challenges your beliefs.' I was under the impression that was the very purpose of attending college! I didn't think that it might be necessary to forewarn somebody, ‘You might have to engage in thinking here. So, take this as your trigger warning.' I genuinely wish to adopt Trigger Warning as my new name. It strikes me as a phenomenal drag king moniker.'
Waters mentioned he was thrilled to have been invited to give advice to the soon-to-be graduates and to be given an honorary degree.
'I served as the commencement speaker, and they also awarded me a doctorate,' he exclaimed. 'Considering that I was expelled from every educational institution I ever attended, it was a wonderful experience. It felt akin to the scarecrow's experience at the close of ‘The Wizard of Oz,' as they bestowed upon me the Doctor of Fine Arts; to which I immediately retorted, ‘My rate has now increased. I am now authorized to write prescriptions for oxytocin, and I demand tenure!''

Waters added that he explained to both the soon-to-be graduates and their parents that not all affluent individuals are inherently bad, and, according to him, being well-off entails not needing to associate 'with aholes.'
'My personal understanding of being rich is -- There exist two fundamental elements that contribute to one's wealth,' he clarified. 'First, one can acquire any book desired, disregarding its price. I've reached that level of prosperity -- although, I do not purchase the Gideon verse Bible -- and, next, one is never in the company of unpleasant people. And such is the case for me. It has taken me - I'm currently sixty-nine -- roughly fifty-odd years to achieve the point in my existence where I never find myself surrounded by jerks. That's genuine influence.'
