Is Koffee a Lesbian?
"Koffee's Not a Lesbian," Asserts Macka Diamond; Explains Reggae Artiste's Masculine Attire as a Deterrent Against Music Industry Predators
Dancehall artiste Macka Diamond has stated her conviction that reggae phenomenon Koffee is not a lesbian, simply on account of her preference for masculine clothing.
As per Macka, the twenty-one-year-old's distinctive manner of dressing serves as a deliberate strategy to repel sexual predators, individuals who, sadly, are pervasively troubling female professionals within the music business.
The seasoned veteran of the entertainment industry explained that she understood why Koffee adopts that particular style of dress, noting the younger artist merely wishes to appear masculine as a means to avoid being subjected to harassment.
Koffee's sexual orientation has been a focal point of widespread conjecture ever since her initial public appearance in two thousand seventeen. It is noteworthy that the Grammy-winning performer has consistently refrained from publicly addressing the unverified allegations suggesting she might be a closeted lesbian.
Given that Koffee has neither publicly acknowledged nor refuted the ongoing speculation, Macka seized the occasion to offer an alternative viewpoint to individuals who have, without further thought, categorized the reggae luminary as a lesbian merely due to her physical presentation.
Macka asserted that a culture of sexual exploitation is pervasive within the music industry, where it frequently occurs that women and young girls are coerced into exchanging sexual favors for career advantages.
The Done-A-Ready deejay brought this to light during an Instagram Live session held on Saturday, October the ninth, as she detailed her personal encounters with sexual harassment that transpired shortly after her transition from high school into the music business.
She disclosed that, prior to embarking on her own professional journey in the music sector, she had already gained an "awareness" of quiet rumors circulating about young women being exploited for sexual favors in return for securing a prosperous music career.
She recounted that she consistently heard tales of individuals being compelled to engage in sexual acts and other such arrangements to achieve career breakthroughs, or 'buss,' as it's known.
Macka conveyed that this knowledge did not dissuade her from pursuing a career in music, primarily because she had already firmly decided to protect herself against any individual who might attempt to harass her.
She further elaborated, stating that upon completing her schooling and subsequently entering the studio environment, she did so with a clear sense of expectation and had resolutely determined to protect herself.
Regarding Sexual Harassment: "I Maintained Strong Self-Protection"
The fifty-year-old artist recalled a particular security guard who routinely subjected her to sexual harassment at the very first studio where she began her musical pursuits.
She explained that following her consistent rejection of all his unwelcome sexual overtures, he began a practice of denying her access to the studio premises.
Macka recounted a specific incident when, arriving at the studio, and completely unprovoked, the security guard forcefully struck her in the chest using what appeared to be his size twelve shoe.
He vociferously declared to her that if she refused to comply with his demands, she would not be granted entry into the studio.
She affirmed that she had merely lodged a formal complaint with the studio's producer; however, regrettably, no action or resolution resulted from this report.
She mentioned that she consistently opted against wearing overly revealing attire, particularly when her recording sessions at the studio were anticipated to extend late into the night.
Macka disclosed that even while accompanied by their respective partners, both producers and other artistes would still make conspicuously overt sexual advances toward her.
The acclaimed songstress asserted that she consistently safeguarded herself against sexual deviants throughout her entire musical career, acknowledging that this personal resolve necessitated her expending ten times the effort compared to her peers who yielded to such advances for career advancement within the industry.
The moniker 'Dancehall Diamond' also brought to light a prior incident of physical assault involving a prominent artiste from the earlier stages of her professional journey.
She disclosed that a well-known artiste, who seemingly bore her ill will, pursued her from a studio located in Tower Hill, Kingston, following a brutal assault wherein he utilized a wooden board, striking her until the object fractured into multiple pieces.
