Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell Recordings

The inaugural offering in a trio of joint ventures between Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, titled "United," made its debut on August 29, 1967, under the Tamla Records imprint, a subsidiary of Motown. This particular collection stood as the duo's and indeed Marvin Gaye's most commercially successful long-player of the 1960s, achieving sales that nearly reached the mark of one million units. It spawned four entries on the Top 100 Billboard charts, including two that climbed into the Top 10 singles category: "Your Precious Love" and "If I Could Build My Whole World Around You." Upon its release, "United" secured the 69 position on the U.S. Billboard 200 album rankings and attained the 7 spot on the U.S. Billboard R&B albums chart. The album garnered a rating of four and a half stars from AllMusic, with the critic Andrew Hamilton remarking that it was "the first of their three LPs, and quite possibly the best of the lot."
